The contactless AC voltage indicator detects the presence of voltage in an insulated wire and in its vicinity. The presence of voltage is indicated by a red LED, an audible signal, and an LCD screen.

The tester works on the principle of electromagnetic induction. The closer the voltage source, the higher the indicator's frequency becomes.
When switched on, the device operates in low sensitivity mode, where the frequency increases when touching the wire. In high sensitivity mode, the frequency increases from about 1 cm away from the wire.
The tester also allows for contactless detection of a break in a live electrical cable – at the point of the break, the tester stops signaling voltage.
